How to create Climate Fresk communication materials tailored to my needs?

You need to advertise for any of your Climate Fresk related activities or to pitch the project? To make it easier for you to translate and customise Climate Fresk templates and communication materials, the association offers you a new (and amazing) tool: Aktivisda!

This page explains all you need to know about it!

Get started on Aktivisda!

Aktivisda is a tool developed by one of our Fresker, Marc-Antoine Augé, through the French cooperative society TelesCoop. It makes it easier for communities to customise and translate communication templates and materials.

Over the last few months, we have enriched and adaptated it for Climate Fresk to help you with your communication needs. This software allows you to access a template created by the association and add specific information about your events (venue, date, etc.) and/or your local community (language, country logo and social networks, etc).

Before getting ahead of ourselves!
This open-source tool was created recently and is still being continuously improved. New features and configurations will be released gradually✨

Log in to the software

The tool can be accessed at aktivisda.climatefresk.org and is password-protected. Access is strictly restricted to the Fresk community.

By sharing the following credentials to the whole community, we entrust each and everyone of you to make the best possible use of this tool in order to serve Climate Fresk purpose and development!

More specifically, we ask you to not share this information with people who are not members of the Fresk community.

Discover the tools and templates available

🗣 Step 1. First thing first: once logged into Aktivisda, you can choose the language of the tool through the drop-down menu on the top right corner.

Drop-down menu to change the language of the software

The interface/tool itself is to be gradually translated by volunteers. Want to help translating it? Find out more here!

👣 Step 2. Then, discover all the available templates and tools: symbols, background images, colors, fonts, QR code!

SYMBOLS. You can choose from this library that contains a selection of official photos, our pictograms and the logos by country. It will be enriched progressively.

BACKGROUND IMAGES. These are the images used as backgrounds for the templates. This category is required for us to create the templates but will not be useful to you.

COLOURS. You can discover the colour palette corresponding to the Fresk’s graphic charter.

FONTS. You can find the fonts used by La Fresque du Climat, as well as their variations.

QR CODE. You can generate a personalised QR code! All you have to do is change the URL address and download the QR code in you preferred format (.png or .svg). You can also change or remove the icon displayed on it.

🖍 Step 3. Personalise the template(s) you need!

Clicking on one of them opens its personalisation board 🤗

Start personalising: the basics

Once you’re there, you can really explore all the features that will allow you to create your ideal communication material.

Start by choosing the language you’d like to work with. Available options can be seen in the drop-down menu on the top-right of the personalisation panel.

Drop-down menu to select the language of the template

If you can’t find your language, it means that it has not been translated yet.

Here, your contribution is precious: we need help to translate the software front end and the templates! Discover how you can participate below.

Once your basis is ready, you can click on various elements to change them. The address, date and time are good starters to explore this feature.

You will probably see that only certain elements can be modified, and they depend on the template. The rest can’t be changed: it’s the core of the template.

However, if you spot translation or wording mistakes in these parts, they can be corrected: please consult the following section to know how.

Dive into personalisation: advanced features

Once you get familiar with the basics, you can explore new territories. All the changes below are to be done via the personalisation panels that open when you click on one of the components of the template (a text block or an image that doesn’t belong to the template background).

  • Change the font of your message: for each text block, you can modify the font to make it adequate with the language you’re working on.

  • Adjust the position and size of your text: you can slightly change the size and position of certain text blocks to ensure they fit correctly within the rest of the design. Changes are only possible within a certain range, to preserve graphic and visual consistency.

  • Adapt the logos and images: you can browse new illustrations from Aktivisda’s rich (and soon enriched even more!) library to include those who best resonate with your message. They can also be downloaded for other uses.

  • Choose your colors: you can change the colors of certain text blocks and of some illustrations to paint your poster in your own shades.

  • Create your own QR code: you can customise the QR code by changing the URL address it redirects to, as well as adding information.

What can you personalise (open content) on the existing templates?

POSTERS

The date(s), time(s) and address(es) of your workshop and training session(s)

POSTERS oNE PAGER

The QR code ad social media tags

What can you modify (within a predefined selection or a certain range) on the existing templates?

POSTERS oNE PAGER

The country logos

The text blocks of the template to adjust them to the language you’re using

In a nutshell: Aktivisda allows you to display your own information on the templates. When you personalise a element (e.g. where the session takes place), you can adapt the size and/or position of the text block to fit the message you wrote.

Download your creation!

🥳 Once your poster matches your expectations, you can download it in the format that you prefer thanks to the Export to PNG / JPEG / PDF features.

Don’t forget this crucial step! There is no automatic backup, meaning you’ll lose your work if you don’t download it!

Features for downloading and saving your template

Other options to save your work

Save: If you want to keep your creation to use it on Aktivisda again later, you can save it in .json format with this feature.
Open: In due time, you only have to come back on the original template you were working on, and open your document in .json format. And magic! your creation appears!
Share a link: Warning! This feature doesn’t work, and will be deleted soon.

Translate the software interface and the templates in your language

When browsing the website and the templates, you may realise that some elements are not available in your language, or that improvements are possible on the existing translation.

Discover how you can contribute to make them better!

Volunteer by filling up our form

To translate templates on Aktivisda, you need an account with relevant access on another software we’ve developed: Tolgee. Indeed, it centralises all translations (cards, communication material, etc.) and facilitates collaboration between translators and with the permanent team.

To obtain it, you can volunteer to translate Climate Fresk communication tools by completing this form. You will then receive an email containing an invite to join Tolgee.

This step can take up to a week, as it is done individually & manually: we thank you in advance for your patience and understanding 🙏

Create a Tolgee account and start translating!

Once you’ve received an email from Tolgee inviting to join one of Climate Fresk’s project on the platform, you can create your account. ✨

→ Here is a tutorial explaining how to do so and guiding you through your first steps on Tolgee!

When you log in, you can find 2 new projects on your home page :

  • Aktivisda (interface) : to translate all buttons of the menu or messages fromrrrr the interface

  • Aktivisda (data) : to translate the content of the templates and their naming

You can click on the project you want to work on and start translating directly into Tolgee!

Identify the content you want to translate

When you arrive on the dashboard of the project you’re interested by, you can filter the pieces of text, also called ‘translation keys’, by their label or via the search toolbar to identify the content you want to translate.

The main tags on Tolgee for the project Aktivisda (data) and their meaning:

  • #affiches atelier (workshop posters) : texts for all the templates of Workshop Posters

  • #affiches formation (training posters) : texts for all the templates of Training Posters

  • #one pager : texts for the one-pager template

  • cat:backgrounds : names of the templates

  • cat:symbols : names of the symbols (pictograms, photos, logos)

  • #logos : names of the logos

  • #picto : names of the pictos

  • #photos : titles of the photos

If you want to translate a template in particular, there are two ways to find its translation keys within the project Aktivisda (data) :

Tick the label of the relevant category for your template (e.g. #one pager);
Tick the label that corresponds to this particular template reference number, which you can find in the URL when you open the template on Aktivisda.

👀 Example: I want to translate the template Workshop Poster_A4-1 date (reference number: 46344a41)

You can find the template number in its URL

I can either tick the label #affiches atelier, which encompasses all the translatable texts from all the Workshop Posters …

… or tick the label #template:46344a41, which encompass all the translatable texts for this specific model: Workshop Poster_A4-1 date.

Texts blocks aren’t displayed on Tolgee in the same order as in the layout you can consult on Aktivisda.

To help you identify where the text you're translating fits in, we've added screenshots of the template in French and English.

Click on the camera to see the screenshots, then on them to enlarge the images.

Don't hesitate to keep the template open in Aktivisda when translating, to understand the overall context of the pieces you're working on, and the space they have on the template. Among other advantages, this will help you respect the line breaks, while adapting them to suit the natural flow of the language.

Page layout respected thanks to the line break before “climate change”
Degraded page layout and text cut due to the lack of line break before “in person or online”

Once you’re done translating, we strongly encourage you to check the layout on the visual, to make sure that the new text fits in well with the existing layout.

Warning: translation don’t appear immediately in Aktivisda (read below).

Team up to perfect the translation!

If you know other freskers that are willing to help you create and improve the translation, you can share the application form with them or contact us on their behalf through the same form.

We recommend having at least one person translating and another person reviewing: proofreading with fresh eyes helps identifying even the smallest mistakes! The reviewer can validate each line individually or as a group, as explained in the Tolgee tutorial.

Once checked, the lines turn green! This indicator allows to monitor the status of the translation.

In future developments, only validated translations (green lines) will be sent to Aktivisda. It will therefore be essential to check them all!

Validate your translations into Aktivisda

Once you're done with translating and proofreading, you have to wait a few minutes to see the result. Templates are automatically updated with the most recent translation saved on Tolgee every 30 minutes.

If line breaks have to be made in Tolgee when translating, minor layout adjustments on Aktivisda may be needed depending on the language. They can be done though the personalisation panel of each element, where you can slightly change the size and position of the text blocks to ensure they fit correctly the poster design.

Changes are only possible within a certain range, to preserve graphic and visual consistency.

In a nutshell: When you use a language other than the default setting (French), you can adapt the text blocks to the chosen tongue by changing their size and/or position. As time goes by, more and more languages will be translated and laid out, making customisation easier for those who come after!

Share your work!

🌍 Once you’re done translating and reviewing the layout, we encourage you to share the availability of this newly adapted template to other Freskers of your community to help them produce gorgeous communication materials of their own.

To do so, you can:

First option: to share with a few fellow freskers

Save your model: As explained above, you can use this function to save your model in .json format. You can then share it with other freskers by any means you like (email, USB key, etc).
Open: The persons who have your template in .json format only have to go back to the template you’ve worked from, and upload your document using this function. And magic! your template appears on their screen! 🎉

Second option: to share widely with your whole linguistic community

Save your model: As explained above, you can use this function to save your model in .json format. Then, send it to the permanent team so we can add it on Aktivisda: choose the option “I have created a template with Aktivisda and I want to publish it for the community to use it” in this form from the Fresk’s support portal, and add your .json file.
Open: after reviewing it, we can upload it on Aktivisda so it’s visible and usable by all and everyone!

Sending one of your designs to the permanent team does not necessarily mean that it will be added to Aktivisda. We reserve the right to select the models. In addition, it may take a few days or even weeks for your model to be added, as this procedure will be carried out manually.

Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding. 🙏

Now you're ready to use these two magical tools: Aktivisda and Tolgee! 🥳🤩

We hope you'll find them useful, and you'll enjoy creating and customising your communication materials in the colours of Climate Fresk!
